Fire Breaks Out in Pakistani Hospital, Killing 15 Newborns
At least 15 newborns have died as a result of a fire that broke out in the maternity ward of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad. This was reported by Geo TV, citing official sources.
According to their information, there were 16 babies in the ward at the time of the incident. Only one baby was rescued.
The fire reportedly started around 6:45 AM local time (5:45 AM Yerevan time) due to an explosion in the air conditioner's compressor located in the third-floor ward, the television station reported. The fire has been extinguished, and work to cool the structures is ongoing.
A commission has been established, headed by the district deputy commissioner, to investigate the incident. They will determine the exact cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the event.
