Latvia Closes Market to a Number of Russian Products

Starting September 1, 2026, Latvia will prohibit the import of a number of industrial goods from Russia and Belarus. This was announced following the adoption of cabinet regulations on Tuesday, according to Delfi.

The restrictions will not only apply to products imported directly from Russia and Belarus but also to goods originating from these countries that reach Latvia via other states.

Prohibited items will include printed books, newspapers, and other printed materials, clothing, ready-made textile products, footwear, hats, toys, games, and sports equipment.

The Latvian Saeima approved the relevant decision back at the end of July. The regulations set the date for the imposition of the ban.

As noted by the Latvian side, the restrictions aim to enhance the country's security, reduce the revenues that Russia and Belarus earn from exports, and limit the entry of Russian propaganda materials into Latvia.
