Volodin: Armenia Should Not Engage in Hypocritical Politics
The Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Volodin, has urged Armenia not to engage in "hypocritical politics" and to clearly orient itself between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). He made this statement during a broadcast on the "Russia 24" television channel.
According to Volodin, Armenia continues to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the EAEU while simultaneously adopting legislation concerning its intention to join the European Union. He characterized this stance as cynical and incorrect, suggesting that Armenian authorities should openly declare their choice.
“It is desirable that Armenia not engage in hypocritical politics. [...] Just take a stand: are you going to the European Union? Go. In that case, there is no need to benefit from privileges here,” Volodin stated.
Previously, the Kremlin also commented on Armenia's intention to join the EU. The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, noted that in pursuing this path, Yerevan would encounter significant legislative contradictions within the framework of the EAEU. He pointed out that this could ultimately harm Armenia itself.
