New Developments in the Khorkhoruni Murder Case

The newspaper "Iravunk" reports that months ago, it was announced that Hrayr Narimanyan, a suspect in the murder of former Deputy Minister of Defense Vahram Khorkhoruni, who was killed on December 10, 1998, at the entrance of his apartment in Yerevan, has been arrested in Russia. Exclusive details regarding the developments in the case were provided to the newspaper by Narimanyan's lawyer in Armenia, Raphael Martirosyan.

According to Martirosyan, the process of extraditing the suspect in the Khorkhoruni murder case has not slowed down; rather, it has virtually shown no progress at all. "We are making efforts to expedite the process within our capabilities and to bring it to a legal conclusion. Despite the fact that the suspect has the opportunity to seek asylum, and there are no legal obstacles in that regard, we have decided not to apply for asylum to avoid complicating the extradition process. I do not wish to disclose at this point what specific circumstances or procedural issues are delaying the process or hindering extradition. These are sensitive legal and political matters, and providing additional comments at this stage could jeopardize our future steps. However, one thing is clear: we do not intend to reconcile with the current situation and will continue to insist that the extradition process advances and reaches a logical conclusion in accordance with the law," the article states.
