Court Decides to Question Tax Inspectors in Samvel Karapetyan Case
Under the chairmanship of Judge Vahe Dolmazyan, the Anti-Corruption Court continued the hearing in the case of businessman Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the "Strong Armenia" party, and others. The defense requested the court to question the tax inspectors of the State Revenue Committee (SRC). However, the public prosecutor stated that at this stage, there is no need to question them, as it is planned to examine the audit report, which, according to the prosecutor, may provide answers to the existing questions. If there are still questions afterward, it would be possible to address the questioning of the inspectors.
Samvel Karapetyan's attorney, Ruben Hakobyan, insisted that the questioning of the SRC inspectors is necessary. "The public prosecutor's persistent efforts not to question the SRC inspectors make me more convinced that they need to be questioned here," Hakobyan stated, also expressing doubt that there may have been some "procedural action" taking place.
The court granted the defense's request and allowed the questioning of the SRC inspectors. The court also accepted the full scope of evidence presented by both the prosecution and defense. The parties may propose new requests to examine additional evidence in the future.
