Wildfires in Europe Have Burned Around 576,000 Hectares
Wildfires in Europe have burned approximately 576,000 hectares this year, an area more than twice the size of Luxembourg. This information comes from the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), as reported by Reuters.
European countries are already working on developing new mechanisms to manage climate risks. For instance, Portugal is considering a mandatory insurance system supported by a disaster fund, while Greece is increasing investments in infrastructure resilient to climate dangers.
At the EU level, discussions are also underway about creating joint management mechanisms for climate risks and possible public-private reinsurance options. Experts believe that preventive investments could significantly reduce future economic losses.
