Prime Minister Pashinyan to Receive €25,000 Award for Efforts Towards Peace Establishment
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is to be awarded the Hesse Peace Prize for efforts aimed at establishing peace in the South Caucasus. This was announced by the Armenian Embassy in Germany.
The award ceremony will take place on September 18 in Wiesbaden, at the Hessian State Parliament. The monetary prize amounts to €25,000.
The awarding body has emphasized Pashinyan's work not only in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan but also in the development of democratic institutions in Armenia and the rapprochement with the European Union.
Particularly noted was the progress made in August 2025 in Washington, where a joint declaration on peace was adopted, along with the preliminary signing of an agreement on the establishment of peace and inter-state relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The President of the Hessian State Parliament, Astrid Wallmann, stated that awarding Pashinyan is recognition of the “historical progress” achieved in the peace process with neighboring Azerbaijan.
The board of trustees of the award also highlighted that Pashinyan has prioritized diplomacy and political negotiations in resolving the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as opposed to escalating military tensions.
The Hesse Peace Prize was established in 1994 by former Hessian Prime Minister Albert Oswald and his family. It is awarded to individuals who have contributed to the cessation or prevention of wars and violent conflicts, the creation of peaceful resolution mechanisms, and the fostering of understanding between peoples.
