“The man has rejected the invitation to give a lecture as long as Ruben Vardanyan is held captive in Azerbaijan. This is a lesson in shame and dignity, especially for the authorities who are primarily responsible for the issue of captives,” stated Gohar Meloyan, a representative of the Strong Armenia party.

She referred to the decision of globally renowned economist, philosopher, and author of 'The Black Swan,' Nassim Nicholas Taleb, to decline an invitation to give a lecture in Azerbaijan.

“Nassim Taleb is a Lebanese-American philosopher, writer, and risk analyst. He is known for his works on uncertainty, probability, and the 'Black Swan' concept. His books have had a significant impact on economics, finance, and decision-making,” Meloyan reminded.

Earlier, Taleb wrote on his X page that he had been invited to Azerbaijan for a lecture but declined the offer. “I was asked to go to Azerbaijan for a lecture. I refused; they significantly raised their offer without understanding my ethics, thinking that it would make a difference. I will not set foot in Azerbaijan as long as Ruben Vardanyan is imprisoned there,” he wrote.

It is worth noting that Ruben Vardanyan, a businessman, philanthropist, and former Prime Minister of Artsakh, was detained by Azerbaijan while crossing the Lachin corridor in September 2023. He is currently under arrest in Azerbaijan.
