New Program Developed by the Government of Armenia: Key Directions Revealed
According to Article 151 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, following the formation of the Government, the Prime Minister presents the Government's program to the National Assembly within a twenty-day period. In line with the necessity to ensure the implementation of the abovementioned, the program of the Government of the Republic of Armenia has been developed and will be presented at a Government meeting. After being approved by the National Assembly, the Government will confirm a five-year program of government activities within a three-month period.
The Program states that the Government will pursue a balanced foreign policy, continuing to deepen strategic and partnership relations with the USA, Georgia, China, France, the EU, the EAEU, Iran, Russia, India, and other partners. The program also notes that Armenia will continue its work within the Peace Council and will undertake efforts towards membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Regarding the deepening of strategic partnership with the EU, it is stated: “The development and integration of sectoral strategic cooperation with the EU will continue towards the comprehensive and effective implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, as well as ensuring Armenia's compliance with the EU's standards of democracy, the rule of law, economy, finance, environment, social sphere, and other areas in line with the law on ‘Starting the Process of Armenia's Membership in the European Union’ that is set for 2025. The program for the liberalization of visa procedures aiming for visa-free entry of citizens of Armenia into the EU will be finalized.”
Regarding relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey, the Program states: “The Government will continue its work on signing and ratifying the agreement on the establishment of peace and inter-state relations between the Republic of Armenia and Azerbaijan, continue the delimitation and demarcation of the state border with Azerbaijan, and will work to activate the communication and mutual trade between the civil societies and business communities of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Efforts will be made to establish diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey, open the Armenia-Turkey border, and launch at least two modern crossing points, as well as to restore and expand transport, energy, and digital infrastructure, and promote bilateral and multilateral trade.”
