Conditions for Obtaining Armenian Citizenship to be Reevaluated

The Armenian government's new program proposes a comprehensive reevaluation of the citizenship institution, viewing citizenship as a stable legal and value-based connection between an individual and the state.

In particular, it is planned to revise the mechanisms for confirming an individual's Armenian ethnicity in the process of obtaining citizenship. The possibility of acquiring citizenship is set to be structured with the establishment of residency criteria, including for those of Armenian descent.

According to the government's program, the aim is to transition from the current "mechanically granted legal status" to a model based on real and conscious belonging to Armenia, integration, and mutual rights and obligations towards the state.
