Investigation Needed on Why Soldiers Were Outside: Pashinyan on Fatal Traffic Incident
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has addressed the tragic traffic incident that occurred in Chambarak, resulting in the death of one soldier and injuries to several others.
“Yesterday, we had an incident in the army. Soldiers were hit by a vehicle that was not fit for operation; unfortunately, one of them has died,” Pashinyan said during a press briefing.
According to the Prime Minister, this incident highlights systemic issues within the military. “This case also demonstrates the systematic nature of our problems. There are quite a few operationally unfit vehicles that are driven around, and this incident happens,” he stated.
Pashinyan also noted that the investigation must clarify why the servicemen were outside at the time of the incident. It’s important to recall that on August 19, around 21:00, a vehicle of model “GAZ-53” ran over several servicemen on the road leading to the city of Chambarak under still unclear circumstances. Soldier Suren Mambrayan Vardanyan lost his life, while the other soldiers were transferred to a military hospital. According to the Ministry of Defense, their lives are not in danger. An investigation is underway to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
