Yerevan State University Department Head Accused of Receiving $4,000 Bribe
The Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia has announced that the investigation into the head of the Chair of Armenian History at the Faculty of History of Yerevan State University has been completed.
According to the Committee, it has been established during the preliminary investigation that the department head, who has held the position since September 3, 2023, used his official powers to solicit a bribe.
The investigation revealed that the department head, utilizing his influence over the student admission committee, demanded $5,000 from a relative of a citizen to ensure their successful admission to YSU. As a result of negotiations, the amount of the bribe was set at $4,000, according to the charges.
The department head has been charged with receiving a large-scale bribe. He has been placed under house arrest as a precautionary measure. The preliminary investigation has concluded, and the materials have been sent to the Anti-Corruption Court with an accusatory conclusion.
It is to be reminded that the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a legally binding court verdict.
