German Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul has commented on the recent threats made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov towards Western countries providing military support to Ukraine, labeling them as "nonsensical propaganda." He made this statement in an interview with Süddeutsche Zeitung on August 18.

Amidst the painful economic and social consequences of Russia's failed invasion of Ukraine, the Kremlin is desperately attempting to exert pressure on Ukraine's allies through threats and disinformation, Wadephul stated.

He emphasized that "even the most nonsensical propaganda" cannot alter the resilience that Ukraine has, thanks to international support, in standing up to Russian aggression. Wadephul also assured Kyiv of Germany's continued support.

Last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that Moscow would intensify its actions to "destroy everything that fuels Kyiv's military machine from the West." Lavrov's statements have drawn the attention of the German government, particularly following a recent incident at Leipzig Airport.

On the night of August 5, an unidentified drone was discovered near a Ukrainian cargo plane at the airport, reportedly armed with explosive materials and a detonator. According to U.S. intelligence assessments, this drone is likely connected to the Russian government.
