Charges Brought for the Sake of Accusation: Makinyan on the Charges Against Serzh Sargsyan

"The charges are so absurd that I find it difficult to comment on them. We are waiting to see how this case will logically conclude (it is clear that one day it will be sent to court), and we will also have the opportunity to show the public what kind of nonsense we are dealing with at all," said Amram Makinyan, a member of the defense team for Armenia's third president, Serzh Sargsyan, in an interview with 168.am regarding the latest charges against him.

Today, we reported that Armenia's third president Serzh Sargsyan has been summoned to the Anti-Corruption Committee, where charges have been brought against him.

"Within the framework of the same criminal case being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Committee, charges have been filed against former President S.S. under Article 308, Part 2, of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia adopted on April 18, 2003 (corresponding to Article 441, Part 2, Clause 5 of the current Criminal Code)," the committee stated.

Earlier, we learned from a statement by the Prosecutor's Office that the prosecutor has initiated public criminal proceedings against Armenia's second president Robert Kocharyan, along with nine other individuals, including Robert Kocharyan's son Sedrak Kocharyan, Serzh Sargsyan, former Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan, former Mayor of Yerevan Gagik Beglaryan, participant of 'Local Developers' LLC Samvel Mayrapetyan, and A.O., who previously held the position of manager in the economy of the Kondi mansions and led the construction company 'Aigedzor', along with his wife and two daughters.

"I have a deep conviction from this situation that charges have simply been brought for the sake of bringing charges, and moreover, that again, let's say, in conditions where Mr. President's exit from the Republic is prohibited, he will be prohibited again. This process occurred today; fundamentally, nothing else. This theater of absurdity is acquiring more and more vivid colors over time," emphasized Amram Makinyan, adding that the case pertains to the sale of the Spy's House, which was carried out by government decision and is of considerable value. "We are confident that no reasonable person could see any problem there."
