ICRC Ready to Mediate Visits to Armenians Detained in Baku
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is ready to act as a neutral mediator in facilitating visits to Armenians detained in Azerbaijan. Zara Amatuni, head of ICRC communication and public relations programs in Armenia, shared this information in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.
According to her, a relevant application is necessary, along with coordination of the matter with the involved parties. "In the case of application and agreement with the involved parties, the ICRC is prepared to serve as a neutral mediator within the scope of its mission," Amatuni stated.
She also noted that the ICRC continues to engage in dialogue with Azerbaijani authorities on humanitarian issues, including cases of missing and detained individuals. Since there is no longer an ICRC delegation in Azerbaijan, this dialogue is now conducted at the organization’s headquarters level.
Official data indicates that 19 Armenians are currently being held in Azerbaijan.
