Driver Convicted in Sona Mnatsakanyan Hit-and-Run Case Has Yet to Serve Sentence: Mariam Kanayan
Human rights defender Mariam Kanayan has addressed the hit-and-run case resulting in the death of Sona Mnatsakanyan on her Facebook page, stating that the driver of the Prime Minister's motorcade, who was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison on August 18, 2025, has yet to serve his sentence.
According to her, both the victim's side and the defendants' lawyers have filed appeals to the Court of Cassation, but it is still unclear whether these will proceed. Kanayan also revealed that a decision has been made for the third time not to initiate criminal proceedings against the leadership of the motorcade. The representative of the victim's side has appealed this decision, but the first instance court has rejected the appeal.
“I would like to remind that the statute of limitations for this case expires in April 2027,” Kanayan wrote. She emphasized that she will continuously address this case to highlight the necessity of justice and the need to eliminate impunity in such incidents.
