Citizen Who Slapped Police Officer During Rally Arrested; Criminal Proceedings Initiated

On August 20, during a protest in front of the Government building, one of the citizens struck a police officer. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the incident is also visible in videos published by media outlets.

The citizen was arrested and taken to the Central Division of Community Police. The Investigative Committee announced that criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding interference with the lawful activities of an official.

It is worth noting that the protest was organized by residents of the emergency housing in Vardashen. They demanded that instead of the proposed monetary compensation, they be provided with housing, stating that it is impossible to purchase an apartment in Yerevan for the offered 7-9 million AMD.

According to eyewitnesses, the slap incident was preceded by police showing an inappropriate attitude towards an elderly woman, the mother of the assailant.
