The Government's New Program Proposes the Adoption of a New Constitution

One of the directions of the new program of the RA Government is the adoption of a new Constitution. According to the program, it is intended to become not only a legal document but also a unified political agreement of the people of Armenia regarding the future of the state, as well as the fundamental principles of internal and external relations.

The government states that the objectives of the new Constitution include strengthening state and popular authority, protecting human and citizen rights, developing the system of separation of powers, checks and balances, and increasing the effectiveness, accountability, and transparency of state institutions.

It is also planned to enhance the independence of the judiciary and the public's trust in it. The draft of the new Constitution will be finalized and subjected to public and professional discussion. Afterward, steps will be taken to put the draft to a referendum.
