Bulgaria to Provide Ukraine with Nearly 100 Armored Personnel Carriers
The parliamentary majority in Bulgaria has approved additional military assistance to Ukraine, specifically the provision of around 100 Soviet-type armored personnel carriers. This was reported by European Pravda, citing the Bulgarian portal BGNES.
On July 21, the decision to provide further military aid to Ukraine was supported by 142 deputies from the GERB and 'Continue the Change. Democratic Bulgaria' alliances, as well as the Socialist Democratic Party and the 'There Is Such a People' party.
The resolution stipulates that Bulgaria will supply the armored vehicles, along with additional spare parts for their maintenance. It is noteworthy that these APCs have been in the Bulgarian Ministry of Internal Affairs' reserve since the 1980s.
Additional assistance may also be established through a separate intergovernmental agreement between Kyiv and Sofia. This marks the first instance of Bulgaria transferring military equipment directly to Kyiv rather than through intermediaries.
At the end of June, Bulgaria confirmed a new military aid package for Ukraine, although details of this package have not been disclosed.
