Operator's Unauthorized Activity Damages 'Arzni-2' Water Pipeline; Administrative Proceedings Initiated
On August 3, an administrative proceeding was initiated by the Water Committee regarding the damaged 'Arzni-2' water pipeline in the gorge of Ptghni, Kotayk Province. According to the Water Committee, the operator engaged in earthworks within the sanitary zone of the 900 mm diameter pipeline located next to a restaurant complex, without coordinating with 'Veolia Jur' and disregarding safety requirements for the pipeline.
The Committee reported that the operator's unauthorized activities resulted in damage to the foundations of the pipeline's supports and the base of the 'Arzni-2' pipeline was destroyed. Consequently, a significant amount of water leaked from the pipeline.
As a result of the restoration work, the water supply to the Center and Arabkir administrative districts of Yerevan has been temporarily suspended.
Following the incident, a working group was established at the Water Committee to conduct an investigation, and administrative proceedings were initiated. The Committee urged operators to coordinate any work in the sanitary and protection zones of water pipelines with the relevant authorities and 'Veolia Jur' in advance.
