Garik Karapetyan Becomes Three-Time European Champion
The members of the Armenian weightlifting team are once again winning medals at the European Championships. In the men’s 110 kg category at the ongoing European Championship in Batumi, Georgia, Armenia had two participants: Garik Karapetyan and Simon Martirosyan.
Garik Karapetyan lifted 183 kg in the first attempt of the snatch and then 189 kg, setting a new European Championship record in the snatch event. Karapetyan earned a bronze medal in this discipline.
In the clean and jerk, Karapetyan lifted 215 kg followed by 226 kg, securing first place in this event. With a total lift of 415 kg, Garik Karapetyan became a three-time European champion.
Simon Martirosyan managed to hold only 183 kg in the snatch. In the clean and jerk, Martirosyan lifted 215 kg. With a total of 398 kg, Simon Martirosyan finished 6th at the European Championships.
