Time Will Tell If Tigran Barseghyan Will Be Called Up, Says Yeghishe Melikyan

The head coach of the Armenian national team, Yeghishe Melikyan, spoke about the criteria for player selection, addressing the factor of receiving a red card as well.

The coach urged not to correlate not being called up with being sent off the field. “Any player can receive a red card, and punishing them by not calling them up to the national team is simply very wrong. Time will tell if Tigran Barseghyan will be called up or not. There will come a time when we will analyze and understand,” said Melikyan.

The coach emphasized that the selection is based not only on players' game qualities but also on their personal characteristics and commitment. “There are players who play well, but I understand that they shouldn’t wear the national team jersey. Simply playing well in a club is not enough to get a call-up. There are numerous factors—approach, psychology, dedication, seriousness. For me, the type of person is decisive in the call-up question, as he will represent our nation in front of 10 million Armenians,” he noted.
