Armenia Closer to the EU Than Ever Before, Says European Commission Spokesperson
“Armenia is closer to the European Union than ever before. The EU-Armenia first summit held in Yerevan was a success,” stated the spokesperson for the European Commission.
According to the spokesperson, the EU and Armenia are already collaborating effectively in various areas, including resilience and growth programs, the European Peace Facility, and partnership missions. He noted that Armenia has taken the first step towards the EU by adopting the so-called 'EU law.'
“This is an important symbolic step. Of course, EU membership is a clearly defined and merit-based process. It requires an official application from the country wishing to join,” the spokesperson added.
He indicated that the European Union is already working on bringing Armenia closer to the EU, particularly in connectivity, trade, and several other sectors. The spokesperson also emphasized that the EU is closely following the process and reminded that the President of the European Commission supports the expressed desire of the Armenian citizens for closer relations with the EU.
