Incidents of Soldier Deaths in the Armed Forces Have Increased

In 2023, Armenia recorded 54 cases of soldiers dying in connection with their service. In 2022, the number of such cases was 32.

According to the report from the Prosecutor General's Office for 2023, out of the 54 cases, there were 19 instances of murder by adversaries, 3 homicides, 2 deaths from traffic accidents, 17 due to violations of rules regarding the handling of hazardous military materials and other substances, 5 cases of negligent homicide, 2 suicides, 1 death by lightning, 1 electrocution, and 4 due to illness.

The report also noted that during the reporting period, 645 soldiers sustained injuries of varying degrees of severity, compared to 959 the previous year, indicating a decrease of 314 cases, or 33 percent.
