Video: Kindergarten Closed, Cafe Opened in Its Place, Vardapetian Reports
During a government session, Armenia's Chief Prosecutor Anna Vardapetian provided information on two ongoing areas of work, noting that the first direction pertains to lawsuits aimed at protecting state interests. Currently, lawsuits have been filed regarding the privatization of kindergartens No. 132, 147, 159, and 199 in the Kanakerr-Zeytun district, as well as nursery kindergarten No. 304 in the Malatia-Sebastia administrative area.
She stated that criminal proceedings have been initiated concerning the privatization of the same kindergartens. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan remarked, “I don’t understand correctly that according to our legislation, it is impossible to privatize a kindergarten. From your use of the word 'liquidation,' I understood that these kindergartens were first closed and then, as buildings, they were sold off.”
Addressing the Prime Minister's comments, Vardapetian pointed out that a vivid example is a kindergarten located at 3 Tamanyan Street, which now operates as a cafe. “Yes, as a result of this process, we now have many children who simply do not have the opportunity to attend kindergarten, because the number of accessible kindergartens in the Kentron administrative area has drastically decreased due to this process. The most vivid example is the kindergarten at 3 Tamanyan Street, which now serves as a cafe,” Vardapetian stated.
