Prosecutor's Office to Appeal Decision to Release Avetik Chalabyan
The coordinator of the "Hayakve" alliance and public-political figure Avetik Chalabyan has been released from the courtroom. The court has lifted the detention imposed on him.
The public prosecutor had requested to extend Chalabyan's detention for another two months, but the court rejected the motion. The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia has announced that it will appeal the court's decision.
Chalabyan is accused of preparing to obstruct citizens' free exercise of their electoral rights during the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7, 2026. According to the investigative committee's version, during a meeting with representatives of a foreign state, he attempted to ensure that Armenian citizens working abroad would come to Armenia and vote in favor of the "Strong Armenia" alliance.
Previously, detention had been applied as a measure of restraint against Chalabyan.
