Opposition MP Elected Chair of Financial and Budgetary Affairs Permanent Committee
Member of the "Strong Armenia" faction, Liana Manukyan, has been elected as the chair of the National Assembly’s Financial and Budgetary Affairs Permanent Committee. The chairwoman of the Assembly's Counting Commission, Lilit Minasian, reported that 96 MPs participated in the closed, secret ballot, with 57 voting in favor of Manukyan's candidacy and 39 against it.
During their speeches, the ruling Civil Contract party members hinted that they would defend Manukyan's candidacy. It is worth noting that "Strong Armenia" had also nominated Hayk Farmanyan for this committee, but he was not elected, as the parliamentary majority led by the Civil Contract was strongly opposed to his candidacy.
According to the D'Hondt formula, 8 of the 12 permanent committee chairs will be representatives of the Civil Contract party, while 4 will belong to the opposition.
