Ukraine Develops Plan: Moscow Airports Could Become Targets of AI-Controlled Drones
At the beginning of the year, Ukrainian officials presented President Volodymyr Zelensky with a new plan aimed at ending the war against Russia, which has been tentatively named "M&Ms." According to The Atlantic, the proposal includes continuing strikes on Russia's military bases, oil refineries, supply routes, and logistics centers.
Additionally, the plan suggests using groups of artificial intelligence-controlled drones to disrupt operations at Moscow's airports. Such actions could also affect international flights departing from the Russian capital.
The Atlantic notes that implementing such a plan could open a new phase in modern warfare. This involves autonomous drone groups that, with the assistance of artificial intelligence, can independently locate and select targets as well as engage them under certain conditions without direct operator involvement.
In recent years, various countries, including the United States, have been developing such technologies. However, their military application remains a subject of legal and ethical debates, particularly regarding the perspectives of international humanitarian law and the necessity of human control during military operations. So far, such autonomous drone systems have not been widely employed in large-scale military actions.
