Yerevan State University Department Head Accused of Accepting $4,000 Bribe
The Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia has announced that the pre-trial investigation concerning the head of the Department of Armenian History at Yerevan State University has been completed.
According to the Anti-Corruption Committee, it has been established that the department head, who has held the position since September 3, 2023, allegedly solicited a bribe by misusing his official powers.
Investigations revealed that the department head leveraged his influence over the student admissions committee, ultimately demanding $5,000 from a relative of a citizen for ensuring their admission to YSU without obstacles. Following negotiations, the bribe amount was settled at $4,000, as per the accusations.
The department head is charged with receiving a large-scale bribe. As a preventive measure, he has been placed under house arrest. He is Edik Minasyan, brother of former MP Artavazd Minasyan.
The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the documents have been sent to the Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia for prosecution.
It is important to note that the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a legally binding court decision.
