According to the Russian Federal Customs Service, on August 18, more than 20,000 people crossed the "Upper Lars" checkpoint on the border with Georgia in a single day. The queues at the border have reached up to 2.5 hours.
In recent days, the flow of passengers at the checkpoint has been high, with over 19,000 people crossing the border daily on August 15 and 16. The customs service reported that in addition to the large influx of tourists, the number of passenger vehicles is also at a record high.

The Russian authorities have urged citizens to consider the road conditions when traveling to and from Georgia and to be prepared for longer wait times on the road.
