Argentina National Team at the Center of Scandal: FIFA Initiates Disciplinary Proceedings

The International Football Federation, FIFA, has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the Argentina Football Association and several members of the national team in connection with incidents that occurred during the 2026 World Cup.

One of the grounds for the proceedings is a banner displayed by Argentine players after the semi-final match against England, which read, "The Malvinas Islands belong to Argentina." FIFA's regulations restrict political statements and displays during sporting events.

In addition, FIFA is investigating clashes that occurred after the World Cup final match between the Argentina and Spain teams. Following Spain's victory in extra time (1-0), a dispute erupted between players and staff from both teams.

The charges against the Argentina Football Association also pertain to inappropriate behavior by fans and the team, discriminatory chants, delays in starting matches, possible violations of security regulations, and the throwing of objects onto the field.
