Italy Rejects U.S. Request
Italy has refused to allow American military transport aircraft to operate flights intended for transporting munitions to the Middle East. The country's defense minister announced this decision, stating that the relevant requests from the U.S. had been reviewed and denied.
With this decision, Italy joins the ranks of countries that are imposing restrictions on the use of their territory and airspace for the purpose of transporting U.S. military cargo. Official Rome has not provided details on whether the restrictions pertain to specific types of weaponry or particular routes.
According to the Defense Ministry, the decision made is final regarding the inquiries received. At the same time, experts indicate that such actions could complicate the United States' logistical capabilities in the region, forcing them to seek alternative routes.
They estimate that similar restrictions from allied nations could increase the time and cost of transporting military cargo, impacting the effectiveness of operations being conducted in the Middle East.
