This was a serious proposal, a big concession. Araqchi
Abbas Araqchi, Iran's Foreign Minister, announced in an interview with CBS News that the abandonment of enriched uranium was one of the components of the deal negotiated with the United States. According to Araqchi, this element referred to the Iranian material enriched to 60%.
He stated that Iran was prepared to dilute the enriched uranium by reducing its percentage content. "So, this was a serious proposal, a big concession aimed at proving that Iran has never sought to possess nuclear weapons and will never wish to have them," said the Iranian Foreign Minister.
At the same time, Araqchi noted that there is currently nothing on the agenda. "Everything depends on the future. If we ever decide to start negotiations with the U.S. or other partners, we can determine what to put on the discussion table. At this moment, nothing is being discussed," he added.
