Louvre Museum Installs Metal Rods Following High-Profile Heist: Details
The Louvre Museum has reinforced the windows of the "Apollo" Gallery with metal rods, from which thieves recently broke in and stole jewelry worth $102 million. This was reported by France 24.
The security measures of the world's most visited museum are under strict scrutiny following the October heist. The museum's deputy director, Franck Steinbok, stated that the installation was required to be completed by the end of the year. Discussions are also underway about reinforcing other windows with similar grids.
It is worth noting that on the morning of October 19, the robbers ascended via a crane, broke one of the Louvre's glass panels, and stole jewelry from the "Apollo" gallery, including items from the collection of Napoleon Bonaparte and his wife. A total of nine pieces were stolen, but one of them, the crown of Empress Eugenie, the wife of Napoleon III, was later discovered damaged not far from the museum. The robbers fled the scene on scooters. The heist lasted 6-7 minutes.
