Iran Faces Strongest Drought in 60 Years, Says President

The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, has described the situation regarding water supply as a crisis, noting that water levels are low across all provinces of the republic. He made this statement during a speech in parliament.

Iran is facing the strongest drought in the last 60 years, which has led to the depletion of many major reservoirs in the country, prompting authorities in the capital to resort to nighttime water cut-offs.

“There are water-related problems in all provinces of our country. Water supply in Iran is in a state of crisis,” Pezeshkian stated.

It should be noted that Iran's meteorological service had previously announced that the country is experiencing “the driest autumn in the last 50 years.” The level of precipitation has decreased by 89% compared to the multiyear average.
