The Only Real Outcome of Trump's Promise to End '8 Wars' Is the Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Process: DW
U.S. President Donald Trump claims to have ended eight wars in his first year in office, but according to Deutsche Welle, these statements are primarily based on temporary ceasefires or political agreements that do not address the root causes of the conflicts.
According to DW, the only conflict where the Trump administration can claim a real achievement is the dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Active American mediation has effectively contributed to the easing of tensions that have persisted for nearly 40 years and has facilitated the formation of a political agreement between the parties.
At the same time, experts point out that most of Trump's 'peace agreements' do not provide for long-term peace. They are often short-term political solutions that delay, but do not eliminate, the risk of new conflicts. DW states that Trump's rhetoric about stopping wars and establishing order is apparently 'smoke and mirrors.'
Experts interviewed by DW emphasized that Trump's diplomacy is often driven not only by the goal of establishing peace but also by geopolitical, economic, and domestic political calculations.
