Ronaldo Could Face Fine
Portuguese national team striker Cristiano Ronaldo may face a fine for improper advertising at Euro 2024. According to Goal, the 39-year-old footballer has violated the rules set by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) by posting a joint advertisement with WHOOP, a company specializing in fitness data collection and analysis.
The player and the company are accused of creating 'ambush marketing', which is illegal. On July 1st, the Portuguese team defeated Slovenia, with the main time ending in a 0-0 draw. During extra time, Ronaldo failed to convert a penalty. The post-match penalty shootout concluded with a 3-0 score, with Ronaldo successfully converting his attempt.
In the quarter-finals, Portugal will compete against France on July 5. The current champions of Europe are the Italian national team, who has already exited Euro 2024 after losing to Switzerland in the Round of 16. The Portuguese players won the European Championship in 2016, defeating the French national team in the final. Earlier, Kylian Mbappe called for himself not to be compared to Cristiano Ronaldo.
