Incident in the National Assembly: Karapetyan Receives Warning Over 'Calf' Comment

A tense situation has arisen in the National Assembly between Narek Karapetyan, the head of the "Strong Armenia" parliamentary faction, and Taron Chakhoyan, a member of the Civil Contract party, following mutual statements.

Taking the floor in accordance with the procedures, Karapetyan addressed Parliament Speaker Ruben Rubinyan, saying, "You were not here, I don't know if it was planned or not, but we had a 'calf' here who was making very inappropriate remarks. You did not stop him, so let the 'calf' not behave like a 'calf'."

Rubinyan immediately warned Karapetyan and urged him to turn off his microphone, emphasizing that no insults would be tolerated against any parliament member.

After the session, Rubinyan and Karapetyan had a private conversation. The Speaker noted that if such behavior repeats, the ruling "Civil Contract" faction will no longer show the same restraint.

In turn, Narek Karapetyan stated in an interview with journalists that insults had been directed at them for about five minutes continuously, but the presiding officer did not respond. "They were insulting us for about five minutes continuously, but the presiding officer did not respond. That is the situation," he said.

Taron Chakhoyan also commented on the incident, insisting that his statement was a response to remarks made by Samvel Karapetyan. "I reacted to Samvel Karapetyan when he called government representatives 'scofflaws','" Chakhoyan noted.
