The Dresden Prosecutor's Office and the Saxon Criminal Investigation Bureau have taken charge of the investigation concerning an incident involving a drone at Germany's Leipzig/Halle Airport. This is reported in a statement released on the website of the regional administration.

Authorities confirmed that last night, an employee discovered a "drone with an unknown explosive device" in the airport's security zone, near the southern runway. Experts from the federal police examined and removed the drone.

"It is presumed that a second unidentified flying object collided with a freighter aircraft after it went for a go-around due to the closure of the runway. Minor damages were reported after landing in Hanover," the statement reads.

It is noteworthy that Leipzig/Halle Airport temporarily suspended operations overnight. Currently, only the northern runway is in use for landings and takeoffs, while the southern runway remains closed.

"There is no threat to the lives and health of the airport's passengers and staff. Air travel is not restricted for passengers," the statement adds.
