I Saw an Old, Beaten Lion: Shearer on Ronaldo

Former Newcastle and England forward Alan Shearer spoke about Portugal's captain Cristiano Ronaldo following the Euro 2024 Round of 16 match against Slovenia that ended in a draw (0:0) and went to penalties (3:0).

"It is clear that Cristiano always wants to be the main figure. But I also saw something else: I saw an old, beaten lion, clinging to his position of pride with the tips of his claws, unable or unwilling to let go of this situation," Shearer’s words are quoted by The Athletic.

It is worth mentioning that the quarterfinal match between Portugal and France will take place today, July 5, at 23:00.
