Cultural Activities to Be Prohibited in Certain Areas of Yerevan
Cultural activities will be prohibited in certain areas of Yerevan. This was reported by the press secretary of the Yerevan Mayor, Hayk Kostanyan.
“Residents of the buildings adjacent to Republic Square, Northern Avenue, and the A. Spendiaryan National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet have regularly voiced their concerns about the cultural activities of street musicians disrupting their peace and affecting their health. Additionally, numerous issues arise for businesses operating in the surrounding areas, negatively impacting tourism,” said Kostanyan.
In light of these concerns, the Public Order Protection Service of the Yerevan Municipality has initiated a proposal to introduce a draft decision by the Yerevan City Council. According to this proposal, cultural activities will be prohibited in the following areas of Yerevan:
- Republic Square and its surrounding area within 100 meters;
- Area bounded by Mashtots Avenue, Sayat-Nova Avenue, Teryan, and Tumanyan Streets;
- Northern Avenue and its surrounding area within 100 meters.
It is noteworthy that the Yerevan City Council's decision No. 849-N, dated September 12, 2023, established the conditions, requirements, and restrictions for the use of public outdoor spaces in Yerevan for the purpose of carrying out cultural activities (streets, sidewalks, squares, parks, etc.),” Kostanyan informed.
