Garik Karapetyan Secures Olympic Quota

Member of the Armenian weightlifting team, 102 kg category athlete Garik Karapetyan has secured an Olympic quota in Thailand. During the World Cup weightlifting competition taking place in Phuket, Thailand, which also serves as a qualifying event for Paris 2024, two lifters represented Armenia in this weight category today: Samvel Gasparyan and Garik Karapetyan.

In the snatch event, Samvel Gasparyan placed 14th with a result of 172 kg, while Garik Karapetyan took third place with a lift of 185 kg. Gasparyan withdrew from further competition as his performance in the snatch was not sufficient to achieve a higher result in the total.

However, Garik Karapetyan continued his performance and, displaying impressive strength, successfully lifted 216 kg in the clean and jerk during his second attempt, securing a total of 401 kg and earning second place, thus achieving an Olympic qualification.
