In one of the most visited historic sites in the Italian capital, the world's largest amphitheater, the Colosseum, located slightly east of the Roman Forum in the city center, special security measures will be in effect for the next four months.

According to local authorities, the area has seen thefts, robberies, and illegal drug trafficking that have disrupted public order. To ensure the safety of numerous visitors, the new regulations will involve increasing police presence and checks.

Tourists have frequently reported incidents of pickpocketing, fraud, and attacks, with a particularly alarming event occurring in early July when dozens of young people set off fireworks and clashed with law enforcement. Currently, the amphitheater and the adjacent Forum area have been declared a "zone of enhanced security measures," which will remain in effect until December 24.

The Colosseum area has been integrated into an existing security program already applied in other central parts of Rome; similar special zones have already been activated near the Termini railway station and in the Esquilino neighborhood.
