VIDEO: Hong Kong Streets and Metro Stations Submerged
Heavy rainfall in Hong Kong and southern cities of China has led to widespread flooding. Streets and metro stations in Hong Kong have been submerged, and schools and businesses have been closed. This is reported by the BBC.
The Hong Kong Observatory has stated that the flooding, which began on September 7, is the most severe in the last 140 years. City officials reported that due to adverse weather conditions, at least 83 people have been hospitalized in the last 24 hours. The rain has also caused landslides, blocking several roads.
According to meteorologists, 158.1 mm of rainfall was recorded in just one hour, the highest level since observations began in 1884.
The southern Chinese city of Shenzhen also experienced heavy rains. In Guangdong province, hundreds of flights have been canceled. Forecasts indicate that the heavy rain will continue on September 8 and 9.
Last week, southern regions of China were hit by Typhoons 'Saola' and 'Haikui'.
