Restrictions on Armenian Products Are a Problem for the EAEU as Well, Says Pashinyan to Russian Media
Forming alternatives for Armenia is a legitimate right of the country, and the restrictions on Armenian products within the EAEU negatively affect the organization’s perception. Our goal is to create alternatives for Armenia, which is a legitimate right of every state, and all countries are working in this direction. This was stated by Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with Russian media in Kyrgyzstan.
He noted that the best positioning for the EAEU is not to attack this process, but to work towards increasing the organization’s competitiveness and attractiveness, which Armenia is ready to support.
Responding to a question about the necessity of making a choice, Pashinyan stated that it is essential to first create that choice before it can be actualized. Regarding the possibility of conducting a referendum on joining the European Union, he clarified that this will only occur after Armenia officially applies to the EU, and currently conducting a referendum is impossible.
He also emphasized that the events occurring within the EAEU, particularly the restrictions on the supply of Armenian products to the Russian Federation, are forming a negative perception of the EAEU in Armenia. According to the Prime Minister, without the possibility of implementing the fundamental principles of the EAEU, the organization will find itself in a crisis situation. The bans placed on Armenian products pose a serious issue for both Armenia and the organization itself.
