Over 2000 Flights Conducted with Expired Spare Parts in Russia Over the Year
In 2022, due to Western sanctions, more than two thousand flights were carried out with aircraft equipped with expired spare parts in Russia, said Viktor Basargin, head of the Rosaviatsiya, during a meeting of the State Duma’s transport committee on Tuesday, May 16. A recording of his speech was obtained by Kommersant.
Basargin did not clarify whether this refers to commercial or all types of air travel. According to Kommersant, in 2022, state corporation controllers for air traffic management serviced 1.4 million flights, including transit and international flights. Basargin did not disclose how many flights were operated with expired spare parts in previous years.
Representatives from major airlines have denied the use of "expired spare parts," according to Kommersant.
