Russian Dairy Export Ban Could Cost Armenian Producers Millions

“Rosselkhoznadzor” has approached the Armenian Veterinary Service requesting to halt dairy product supplies to Russia starting April 5.

“During the meeting, concerns were raised about the inability of the Armenian Veterinary Service to guarantee the safety of dairy products for Russian recipients,” stated a message released by “Rosselkhoznadzor.”

It was also mentioned that the appeal is related to insufficient results from inspections that had been reported earlier.

Based on official statistics from last year, it can be concluded that Armenian producers stand to lose several million dollars due to the ban on dairy exports to Russia.

According to the data from the RA Customs Service, Armenia exported to Russia in the first half of 2022:

• over 8 tons of milk and cream valued at $11,800,
• 38 tons of condensed milk and milk powder valued at $120,000,
• nearly 313 tons of sour cream, yogurt, and kefir valued at over $345,000,
• more than 953 tons of butter and dairy spreads valued at over $5.2 million,
• more than 648 tons of cheese and cottage cheese valued at over $4.2 million.
