Paris Comments on Dialogue with Putin
France places significant importance on maintaining dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the situation in Ukraine. This was stated on April 5 by Clément Beaune, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, during an interview with RFE radio.
He positively responded when asked if President Macron intends to continue phone conversations with Putin. “Discussions with President Putin are very important,” he said. “Emmanuel Macron is keeping this dialogue channel open at the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky,” Beaune noted.
According to the Secretary, “these discussions are not directed against Ukraine; they aim at a peaceful resolution of the conflict.” “It is necessary to seize every opportunity,” he emphasized. Meanwhile, as Beaune pointed out, France “follows the political line of sanctions against Russia, demonstrating its commitment to its stance,” TASS reported.
