In early August, the National Police's 112 operational management center received several reports of robberies involving elderly women. Gold chains had been ripped from the necks of three elderly women on Bagratuniats Avenue and Yeghishe Tadevosyan Street in the capital. This information was reported by the police department.

The officers from the Criminal Police’s unit fighting crimes against property in Yerevan acted on the operational information in collaboration with their colleagues from the Shengavit community police department. They received credible information that the robberies had been committed by a 39-year-old man from the village of Malishka in the Vayots Dzor region. Further measures revealed that this was the same person who had been previously suspected by criminal police for similar crimes, and they were verifying his actual place of residence.

On the morning of August 13 at 9:40 AM, the man was arrested on Nar-Dosi Street in the capital, where he had temporarily settled, on reasonable suspicion of carrying out the aforementioned robberies, and was taken to the Criminal Police department in Yerevan.

The man confessed not only to the robberies in August but also to four other similar crimes he had committed previously, all of which took place on Bagratuniats Avenue in the capital, with the victims again being elderly women.

The documents prepared have been submitted to the investigative department of the Shengavit administrative district. The 39-year-old man has been detained and transferred to a correctional facility. The investigation is ongoing.
