Negotiations Halted Due to U.S. Blame, Says Iran's Foreign Ministry on Nuclear Deal
The reason for the suspension of negotiations on the nuclear deal in Vienna is that the White House is trying to use the situation to resolve domestic political issues. This was announced by Saeed Khatibzadeh, the official spokesperson of Iran's foreign ministry, during a press conference on April 4.
“What happened in Vienna, the (negotiations) halt, is due to the U.S.,” he said. “It became clear that President Biden and the White House have not yet made a decision on this issue.”
The diplomat added that “U.S. authorities have made the situation around the nuclear deal part of domestic politics.” According to him, “if the U.S. is ready to sign the agreement, then they must make a political decision.”
After eight rounds of negotiations regarding the revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) concerning Iran's nuclear program, the discussions were suspended on March 11 due to external factors. Prior to this, the Vienna talks had exceeded the deadline and were supposed to conclude by the end of February. The text of the agreement has been coordinated and spans about 20 pages, detailing the measures for returning to the implementation of the original nuclear agreement, as reported by TASS.
